Before Shedding
I’ve been waking up exhausted
My
Skin
Clings to me
Stretch taut like a mask
Anticipating its departure
Unraveling, rolling away
a nervous twitch
I hear frogs singing outside my window
in the parking lot
Clicking, clacking
They call to me
But I’m too tired to rise
And too shy to fulfill my in-gorged swollen body
The hour nears when I will have no choice
Bursting forth from my time spun leotard
Raw and exposed
